SO MUCH TO SEE AND SO MUCH TO DO!

Kenya is breathtaking. Endless horizons stretch to meet a seemingly perpetually blue sky, and wherever you go you are greeted by warm, friendly people, encountering iconic wildlife species along the way. The land beneath your feet was laid down when the Earth was young, with the Great Rift marking the boundary between two tectonic plates that are slowly pulling apart. Its floor is littered with extinct volcanoes as it slices through the country (and the continent) from north to south.

On the equator lies majestic Mount Kenya. To the north the remote and rugged semi-deserts of the Northern Frontier. To the west is the largest lake in Africa - Lake Victoria - where the River Nile begins. To the east lies the Indian Ocean and sun-kissed beaches. And to the south you'll find the Masai Mara, home of the annual Great Wildebeest Migration along with its southerly neighbour, Tanzania's Serengeti National Park.

Let's look at some of the highlights a safari in Kenya offers...

VIBRANT CULTURE

Modern Kenyan culture was born of a myriad of sources and influences both old and new. Despite the many and varied influences that have shaped Kenyan society, Kenya has developed a distinctive and unique culture that is truly unique. If there is one thing in Kenya that speaks of this unique character, it is its blend of traditional societies and cultures and the modern world.

Tribes like the Maasai, Kikuyu and Samburu exemplify the art of adornment and decoration, and history shows that this has been a long and influential tradition across the East African region. But Kenya's anthropological history goes back further, to the time of our early hominid ancestors. Throughout the country, there are many examples of rock art and cave painting, all with similar designs and motifs that can still be found today.

Traditionally, Kenyan music originated from several sources. Many of the nomadic tribes of this region share some common ground in the use of songs and chants, particularly among Maa speaking groups. Maa song has always played a large role in ceremonial life, and continues to underpin its cultural foundations.

THE GREAT WILDEBEEST MIGRATION

The Masai Mara National Reserve is famous the world over for hosting the Great Wildebeest Migration – one of the largest mammal migrations on the planet. This unique spectacle features more than a million wildebeest and zebra, on a cyclical journey that follows the annual rains from the south of the Serengeti in neighbouring Tanzania into the Mara and back again.

Huge herds of wildebeest and zebra follow the fresh grazing that sprouts in the wake of the rains, following ancient pathways through the great plains of East Africa and crossing the Grumeti and Mara Rivers en route. Arriving in the Mara between July and August and leaving again between October and November, this is the circle of life in all of its glory.

SAFARI INFO

Kenya offers the modern traveller an unparalleled range of safari options. The incredible diversity of landscapes, cultures, wildlife and activities offer endless opportunities for an exceptional African safari experience.

Climate

Being near the Equator means Kenya's climate is fairly stable. With only two seasons in the country - wet and dry - it’s easy to predict the type of weather you’re most likely to experience, with only minor variations depending on where you travel and the altitude of your destinations. But perhaps the best thing in Kenya is that it's almost always sunny all year round!
