Meet our people

ELIAS WANGARI

Born and raised in central of Kenya, Elias developed a passion for tourism at a young age, influenced by a neighbour and close family friend who owned a travel company. He grew up marvelling at this unknowing mentor's job and his knowledge of different regions and travel related topics, knowing he wanted to do the same. After school Elias moved to Nairobi where he furthered his education, studying tourism management. He worked as a travel consultant in Nairobi before moving to Tanzania, working in a big hotel training staff on customer service. He would later work with different tour/travel companies as a tour manager and marketing consultant, eventually putting all of that combined experience and his love for tourism to use by starting Leadwood Holidays.

JOHN PHILIPO MWANGA

Born on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro where he did his schooling, John began his career portering for trekkers climbing "Kili". As a result of his experiences working with people, he decided to pursue a full-time career in tourism, working for a while as an auto mechanic in Arusha to fund his further education, studying tourism and hospitality. After completing his studies he achieved his dream and became a guide and has been guiding ever since, getting his qualifications with the Tanzania Tourism Guides Association. In his spare time he volunteers in his local community. John is a dedicated and avid birder and is a big family man, being married with three children.

ROBSON URASA

Also born in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, Robson worked as an auto mechanic in Arusha after finishing school, eventually getting a job as a driver for a local tour company which is where his love for tourism was ignited. He would deliver camping supplies and materials to the Serengeti and other national parks while heading up the company's vehicle workshop as well. He loved assisting the team in setting up camps and learned the art of camp cooking, and fell in love with the prospect of guiding, studying part-time while working. He eventually got his qualifications with the Tanzania Tourism Guides Association and this engaging father of three is now a full-time driver-guide.

REMMY EDWARDS

Born and raised in the bustling coastal city of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania's former capital, Remmy moved to Arusha after finishing his schooling and went to college to study tour guiding. Having been exposed to tourism from a young age in Dar es Salaam, it's a career path he had his heart set on. Following college he did training in the field with a local tour company and worked for some years as an assistant guide, building up his experience. He's now been a guide for more than 15 years and like his colleagues is certified by the Tanzania Tourism Guides Association. He is married with two children.

ROGER MADAVA

Born and raised in Arusha, guiding is in Roger's blood. His father is an experienced guide with decades of experience under his belt and inspired Roger to join the industry, hoping he would follow in his footsteps - which he has! He studied tour guiding in Arusha and later worked with different companies as a temporary driver for short day-trips where he built up experience with guests from all over the world. He later started leading longer safaris and now has been in the industry for more than a decade. He is qualified and certified by the Tanzania Tourism Guides Association, and is married with two sons.
