The Land of a Thousand Hills

Rwanda is a land of great diversity and beauty. Popularly known as ‘The Land of a Thousand Hills’, Rwanda features five volcanoes, twenty-three lakes and numerous rivers, some forming the source of the great River Nile. Rwanda is a truly scenic tourist destination that is a photographer’s paradise. Mountain Gorilla Safaris

The mountain gorillas of Rwanda are gentle giants and are found in the Virunga Mountains wherein lies the Volcanoes National Park (Parc National des Volcans).

In the Volcanoes National Park there are currently 8 gorilla families totaling 740 individuals that you can visit on your gorilla safari. Rwanda not only enjoys the best security in the region but also has the easiest access routes for visiting the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

Photographic Safaris

A large selection of African wildlife can be seen in the Rwandan forests, rivers and mountains including zebras, impalas, water buffalo’s giraffes and elephants.

Even the flora is fascinating and bird watchers can enjoy the various bird species. Due to its small size, Rwanda tourist attractions are near each other and can be reached quite easily and safely.

Breathtaking Highland Landscapes

Rwanda is a highland with truly breathtaking landscapes. Rwanda’s mountainous topography is a product of her position on the eastern rim of the Albertine Rift Valley, part of the Great Rift Valley which cuts through Africa from the Red Sea to Mozambique, forming a mountain range that traverses the country from north to south.

The west coast of the country overlooks the beautiful shores of Lake Kivu.

Rich African Culture

Rwanda has a rich culture evidenced in the diversity of fine crafts and strong traditions. These include music and dance and a variety of handicrafts. Sought after crafts include pottery, basketry, painting, jewelry, wood carving and metalwork.

A window on Rwanda's history is provided by numerous memorial sites and museums preserved around the country. A number of community based tourism experiences offer tourists the opportunity to experience life in a traditional Rwandan village.
